Next generation sequencing is lending insight into DNA degradation. Overballe-Petersen and colleagues from GeoGenetics discuss how sequencing ancient DNA molecules on next-generation sequencing platforms provides direct measurements of degradation in the form of cytosine deamination, depurination and fragmentation.
