Research group: The Palaeoclimate-Quaternary Group
Our group span classical quaternary themes such as glacial geology, stratigraphy and collections to advanced palaeoclimate modelling. We also work with state-of-the-art surface change detection reconstructions of the Greenland Ice Sheet.
During Arctic field work in 2006 the idea arose of merging ancient DNA and geoscience. Using this new approach allows us to address long-standing fundamental problems concerning the sensitivity of polar ecosystems and human migration - problems that only a few years ago seemed unsolvable.
Thus, the ambition for the future is to develop and consolidate the novel link between geoscience, molecular biology and vertebrate palaeontology to solve longstanding scientific problems or even change current paradigms. Much of our research is in close collaboration with the research group of Eske Willerslev.
